This is a redesign for Swap n' Cruisin.Swap n' Cruisin - Redesign - June 2011

Sept 2008

This is the website we designed for Swap n' Cruisin that meets all the criteria that Doug Blankenship outline to Webbering.Swap n' Cruisin - Original - May 2008

Situation

Doug Blankenship, owner of Swap n' Cruisin, has been conducting automobile swaps and shows for several years.  He needed a website to promote his shows.

Challenge

Doug wanted a site that reflected the automotive aspect of the show and could provide everything that visitors as well as vendors would need for attending the show.

Solution

In a word, this was a fun site to work on.  We had some images of antique and unique vehicles that Doug has provided and came up with the checkered flag header with the automobile images in some of the white squares.  To reflect a highway, we put a solid and dotted line to mimic the stripes on a highway.  As Doug is an Auburn fan, we chose orange and blue as our accent colors.  Reflecting Doug's request to keep it simple, we chose to display a large image of the flyer on the page with it hyperlinked to a PDF file of the flyer.  We created a vendors section where information for registering is provided.  We included a tabbed layout page for visitors and vendors. For visitors, we included all available lodging facilities within the general area of about 10 miles with individual pages for each lodging facility and links to the websites.

Updated June 2011

As their original site had become a bit dated, we convinced Doug to allow us to redesign the website.  This allowed us to upgrade the site to the most recent version of Joomla that would give us increased capability and extensibility as well as better conformity to web design standards.  Doug provided a logo that  he wanted us to use which we put at the top left of the header.  But then we got one of those 'hairbrain' ideas of using a graphic for a dashboard and use image map links for navigation.  This was all just for fun but it turned out great.  We still used the original header as a showcase below the new header for impact.  We moved the sidebar from the left to the right and expanded the width of the sidebar.  We added a slideshow of their most recent event.  For the background we found and edited numerous automobiles trying to get one from each decade for the past century.  We standardized the size and created a uniform background.  After all, automobiles of all ages can be found at swap meets so this was in keeping with that spirit.

Result

SwapNCruisin.com provides Doug with an online resource to promote each show that he conducts.  Webbering keeps the content updated to reflect the upcoming shows.
